My goal this year is accuracy so I tried a few ways with these HSTs to see what was most accurate for me. First of all, I starched my fabrics before cutting.
First, I tried my free triangle foundations which are always gauranteed acurate. I like these because I can cut to the size of my scraps and sew together. I made about half of my HSTs this way. |
I tried cutting triangles oversized and trimming with my folded corners ruler but that wasn't as accurate for me - have to line up the sewing line just do and that was a bit of a pain. I'll save the folded corners ruler for its intended use.
Then I tried 8 at a time and trimmed with my bloc loc HST ruler. Sweet these are so accurate too! I made the other half of my units by this method. They are add identically sized!
By my calculations, this uses less than a third of the blues called for so I'm pretty certain there will be more blue before we're done. I figure we've used @ 1/5 th of our neutrals by now. Just for fun, once we're a few clues in, I will post how many pieces the quilt has as I'm sensing that this one will be lots of small pieces.
No sizes or numbers posted per Bonnie Hunter's free mystery rules. The mystery will be live until approx Feb 1st 2019. If you want to join in, links to the fabric amounts and all the clues can be found at Good Fortune Mystery. After Feb 2019 this link will either not show the clues or will not be there at all.
